I've never been this far away from home

I have my core final crit tomorrow! This is 1/5th of the whole collection, as it had to be 5 pieces around a concept. I'm pretty happy with it, and the concepts and materials are things I will definitely be exploring more this summer and beyond.
It's totally insane that freshman year of college is over already. A year ago at this time, I was being sentimental about leaving high school, starting a killer internship with a huge stylist in NYC, and soaking up the rest of our time in our little town with my friends. Going through all the insane shit I went through this year makes me see how lucky I was to have the life I did. Between the amazing education (that is still continuing), the small town that really isn't so insignificant after all (I just learned that Julia Child lived miles from my house for a time), and most of all the genuine people. I've learned more then anything that that combination of life circumstances is extremely rare. It has become increasingly difficult to find meaningful relationships that can even slightly compare to the ones I've had with the people in my community. I guess I took it as normal that the majority of people where I live grow their own food and only buy from farmers markets.
I am literally counting down the days until I get to go home to all these wonderful things. This really is the last summer. After this, I will have my own apartment, should probably have a job, and most importantly, be working towards and trying to build my future career. That is so fucking scary. But for now I'm going to enjoy late summer nights, the real Jersey shore amazing food, and best of all - good company.... And I will definitely have a drink or two to that.
